Fat’s Chicken and Waffles sits in the historic Central District on the corner of MLK and Cherry, keeping soul food alive in the same spot that once housed Catfish Corner and One Stop Burger.

The kitchen serves New Orleans–inspired soul food, with the same hospitality you would receive down south or at your favorite relative’s house.

Owner Erika White and Erika Kidd-White were both raised in the Central District and still live there.

The menu runs from fried chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits, fried okra, and red beans and rice, plus fried catfish as a nod to the building’s history. The room features a hand-painted mural and handmade furniture by local artists.
